Meet Kai–another preemie I had the opportunity to photograph this past fall. This little guy made it home from the NICU just in time for Thanksgiving–what a wonderful gift to be thankful for!

First off, rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated! I’m still alive and kicking, but I’m hopelessly behind in my blogging. I’m slowly trying to catch up.

How can I best express the wonder and amazement I felt during this session? I photographed little Judah in the NICU, where he had been spending the first 3 months of his life. He was born about 15 weeks before his due date, so our session was anything but “normal”. Despite the fluorescent lights, standing on hospital furniture to get good angles, and the loud beeping of heart and breathing monitors, Judah proved to be quite the champ. He is *truly* a miracle in every way possible.

This little man certainly brought back some memories for me. He was having some issues with nursing, so every time he needed to feed, his daddy would gently and patiently finger-feed him with a feeding tube. I remember how much patience that took with my own child so many years ago, and how frustrating it could be at times. Even though at the time I thought it would never end, looking back now I realize it was just a small blip on the radar of life. It’s amazing how such a small creature can teach you so much about patience, love, and giving even when you’re exhausted and feel like you have nothing left to give.

Congratulations ‘K’ family–he is truly amazing.

Tonya Marie - These are simply amazing! I hope this family realizes how lucky they are to have you photograph their little one.

Gloria Nobles - What sweet captures! You're right sleeping baby's are always nice, but it's just something about that "open eyed" shot that you get every now and then! BONUS: I love the way her name is spelled!

Amanda Keeys - Such beauty. I love that last shot, those eyes are gorgeous.

mendy - I love these too! Of course, being her mom...I am a little biased. Her eyes in color are even more amazing. I can't wait to see the full photo shoot. Thanks Molly.

I often tell people I have the best job in the world, because I really do. There aren’t too many people in this world who can honestly say that they love what they do for a living–I guess I’m one of the lucky few. Photographing newborns brings me such immense joy, and such a sense of peace knowing that I’m giving parents the gift of time, paused. By the time Baby Tyler’s parents read this post, he will already be 1.5 weeks older, bigger, and so much different already. I say this all on the cusp of my oldest child turning 7–time goes so quickly. Take these moments and drink them in–savor each one, because tomorrow they will be different and changed. Thank you to Tyler’s parents, and to ALL of my newborn parents, for allowing me to be a part of this sacred time.
